Where does time go?
Do you ever wish that you could just stop time and keep your kids from growing up so fast?
Sometimes I feel like I blink and my kids have grown!
It really hits me when they reach another milestone.
Last week my oldest daughter graduated from 8th grade. Next year she will be heading on to high school – how did that happen??
We were looking at some old pictures of her early school days and I got a little teary.
Where did my little girl go who loved to play dress-up and dance? I guess she still likes to dress up – it's just not pretend anymore!
It always makes me realize how short our time with our children really is. Life can be so busy that it seems to pass by too fast!
Our children really aren't our children. They are God's children…entrusted them to us for a short time. Our job is to help shape them, teach them, and prepare them to love and serve him as young adults and beyond.
As much as we wish we could slow down time, it isn't possible. What we can do is MAKE TIME to be present with our children and use everyday opportunities to guide and point them towards God.
This prayer was shared by one of the moms in my daughter's class as a graduation prayer. I thought it was a beautiful prayer to pray for my children on a regular basis. I changed it just a little and made it into a prayer for moms.
A Mother's Prayer:
Lord, You knew my children before I even did. You know everything about them. You know when they sit and when they rise. You gave them each unique gifts and talents. You even know their individual quirks. Keep them, O Lord, from the hand of the wicked. Protect them from those who try to lead them astray. Guard their heart, Lord, for it is tender and young. Guide them into all truth through the Holy Spirit, leading them to take ways that are only firm. May they be careful how they live, not as unwise, but as wise – making the most of every opportunity. It is you God who arms them with strength and makes their way straight. Lastly, Lord, I pray that this command you gave will be carried out to completion as they grow into young adults: Help them to be on their guard…Stand firm in the faith…Be a person of Courage…Be strong…and do everything in Love! I ask this in Jesus' name, who paved the way for me through the cross. Amen!
As much as we wish we could slow down time, it isn't possible! What we can do is MAKE TIME to be present with our children and use everyday opportunities to guide and point them towards God!
